Meth labs have been popping up in the weirdest of places these past few months. Back in March, one that was still active was found in the men's restroom of a Walmart store in Indiana. This week, yet another was discovered in a Taco Bell restaurant in Iowa.

Apparently, the real Walter Whites of the world are nothing if not imaginative when it comes to finding new places to cook their merchandise.

How does one find a meth lab in a Taco Bell?

This past Tuesday, at about 5 in the morning, law enforcement officers in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received a call informing them that a couple of rather suspicious-looking individuals were hanging about in the parking lot of a local Taco Bell restaurant.

A crew was sent to investigate the report, and soon enough, two men were indeed found lurking around the fast food joint. Of the two men, one identified himself as a Taco Bell employee.

Since spending time in parking lots does not go against the law, the officers first considered letting the two men go. However, when they noticed a weird smell coming their way from the restaurant, they decided to have a look inside the establishment.

With the manager's permission, they raided the place. Much to their surprise, the Cedar Rapids officers found materials and equipment that have no place in a fast food joint. The kind of materials and equipment used to cook meth, to be more precise.

The two men are now in police custody

Having discovered the makeshift meth lab, the police arrested the two men they found hanging around the Taco Bell restaurant when they first surveyed the establishment.

The suspects, identified as 31-year-old Christopher Adam Matous and 56-year-old Kent Jerome Duby, were both charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, NBC News informs.

Shortly after the incident, Taco Bell released a statement apologizing for the entire affair and stressing that it had no knowledge of what was happening at night in the restaurant.

“Although the suspicious items found in the restaurant were not used in the kitchen, the employee has been terminated and our franchisee is considering pressing criminal charges,” Taco Bell said.
