New concept shows Pokemon Go on HoloLens

Niantic has hinted that a HoloLens version of Pokemon Go could debut at some point in the future, and because the company hasn’t provided a release date, developers around the world have rushed to create concepts imagining the game running on Microsoft’s revolutionary glasses.

This prototype of Pokemon Go for Microsoft HoloLens was created in just two days by the super developers at Koder, so it shouldn’t take too long for a company the size of Nintendo to make this real. And to be honest, the result looks absolutely fabulous, although we do know that Pokemon Go and HoloLens would be a very expensive mix - Microsoft sells the device for more than $3,000.

This is also pretty much the only way for Microsoft users to actually play Pokemon Go, as Niantic is currently focusing on Android and iOS exclusively, with no intention whatsoever of building a Windows Phone version of the game.

On the other hand, a HoloLens version would really make sense and give Pokemon Go a completely new approach that could help push the title beyond the boundaries of the mobile phone.

For the moment, however, the only thing we can do is dream of having Pokemon Go on a Microsoft device, be it a Windows phone or HoloLens, but whatever their choice, Nintendo has absolutely no strong reason now to look at Windows as a potential target for a future version of the game.

Satya Nadella: Pokemon Go is built for HoloLens

Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella himself admitted that a version of Pokemon Go for HoloLens would be a very interesting project, explaining that the two seem to mix quite nicely.

“It’s fantastic to see these augmented reality applications getting built. This Pokemon interest will hopefully translate into a lot of interest in HoloLens. Because if you think about it, the game physics of that app [Pokemon Go] are built for HoloLens,” Satya explained recently.

“Of course, the phone is great because after all the install base of the phone is enormous. Think about now what that game on HoloLens would mean - you aren’t trying to use a phone, when you can actually just use your eyes to look through and have that augmented reality experience.”

Niantic has already confirmed that it’s looking at ways to expand Pokemon Go, but don’t expect any release to take place this year, as the priority is now to make the game available on mobile devices all over the world.
