Niantic update breaks down PoGo UWP for Windows 10

PoGo UWP was pretty much the only way for Windows 10 Mobile users to play Pokemon Go on their phones, but every once in a while, the game goes down due to Niantic API updates.

Today it’s one of those days, as the latest API changes that Niantic has introduced for Pokemon Go forced PoGo developers to disable their game temporarily until a workaround is shipped.

In a post on GitHub, the developing team warns that users will get a warning upon launch and the game will then close automatically. It’s not recommended for anyone to bypass the prompt because this could trigger a ban on their account.

“Today Niantic forced the update to 0.39 version, which breaks a lot of things API-wise. We decided to disable the game for everyone (app will launch but it will close after a warning popup) because it's not safe now,” the developing team wrote.

“I know that you guys were waiting to see all the changes that we've been pushing in the last weeks, we really wanted you to see them, but I don't know when we'll be able to have a working API again so I must ask you to keep on waiting. We're sorry for that, but we have no control on API changes.”

You better not try to play it

And last but not least, PoGo creators recommend Windows phone users to disable unofficial versions of the game that do not come with such warnings because they could also lead to Niantic banning their accounts following the latest API updates.

Unfortunately, this is what is happening when a large developer such as Niantic shows absolutely no interest in Windows phones, and even though developers in the community have found ways to get the game working on their devices, the company keeps blocking them with pretty much every single update.

In case you’re wondering, the petition that calls for Niantic to bring the game on Windows phones is now closed after previously gathering 115,000 signatures.
