Plex Media Server, a software that makes it easy for everyone to play movies and TV shows on the computer, has been upgraded to version 0.9.12.4 and is available for download.

Plex Media Server is a complex piece of technology that can be used on any platform, Windows, Mac OS, or Linux, to interface with a number of devices like smart TVs and other hardware. It's easy to turn your PC into a local media library and it also comes with a ton of plugin that can expand the use of the application even more.

Some of the updates released in the past few months have been rather consistent, but it looks like this latest one is a little bit smaller, although it does come with an important fix for PCs with old Linux kernels.

What's changed in Plex Media Server

According to the changelog, remux now works on PPC platforms, a tweak has been added for the HTTP request timer, the filesystem watching functionality has been improved, a rare issue where the transcoded video became extremely low resolution has been fixed, the search with non-Latin characters has been refined, sorting by duration should now work much better, and Ubuntu systems that have with a Linux kernel older than 2.6.33 should now be able to run the application.

Keep in mind that Plex Media Server has two versions, a free and a premium one. Usually, the premium version updates before the free one, but eventually, all the changes end up in the same branch. If you already have the application installed, you don't need to reinstall it. Just go into the setting and install the update from there. Please remember that you will also have to restart the browser.
