14 DAY TRIAL // Plex was, is, and will continue to be one of the top media streaming services on Windows, but since Windows 10 is here with universal apps, the company is adapting and working on an app specifically aimed at PCs and mobile devices.
A Plex universal app is currently in the works, and beta testers are needed before it goes live in the store. Users who want to give it a try can join the testing program here, and all they need is an email address registered with Plex and a Windows Store account to download it.
“After months of hard work, we're excited to announce that we're opening the beta for the native client built specifically for Windows 10!” the company says.
“In order to help us identify and work out any kinks, we've decided to publish a new app which can be installed side-by-side with the current app. This way the community will be able to easily try it out and let us know their feedback, without any concerns about breaking their current app.”
Optimized for Windows 10
For the moment, the company says that only the desktop version is up for testing, but promises that a mobile version is also on the table, so depending on how the development of the first build goes, Windows 10 Mobile could get the app sooner or later.
At this point, Plex already has apps on Windows devices, but the new one is specifically tailored for Windows 10, so it’s possible that the team working on it has plans for better integration with the new operating system. Plex could thus use Cortana and bring support for all new features in Windows 10.
There’s no mention of when the Plex app for Windows 10 could go live, but since the beta program has already started, we shouldn’t have to wait too long to get it on our Windows 10 devices.
