14 DAY TRIAL // The team at Sony working on the PlayStation 4 is announcing the long-awaited firmware 3.0 firmware update for the home console will be delivered to users on September 30 and is also offering a full look at the range of new features that are being added.
John Koller, a vice president of platforms marketing at the company, explains on the PS Blog that a lot of player feedback has been taken into account when putting together the final list of tweaks for the platform.
Gamers will be able to share video clips directly to Twitter after they download and apply PlayStation 4 firmware 3.0, in addition to the already offered YouTube and Facebook, with a maximum length of 10 seconds.
The new YouTube live section is designed to allow players to stream their games with no additional steps required, and gamers can also choose to use the PNG format for their screenshots.
A dedicated section for the PlayStation Plus service is being introduced in firmware update 3.0, with Sony stating, "We’ve made a dedicated section for PlayStation Plus, which you can access by clicking the big Plus icon on the top right corner of your PS4 home screen. Once there you can easily manage your membership, see the monthly free games to download, deals for PS Plus members, and all of the games you’ve redeemed through PS Plus on PS4."
The PlayStation 4 is also becoming more social
In order to make sure that gamers can easily connect to their friends and those who share their interests Sony is adding an Events hub, which features activities from favorite titles and official broadcasts.
Players will also get improvements for messages and the groups that they are part of.
Communities can also be created, based on shared member interests, featuring a message board and easy access to shared images and game activities.
The 3.0 firmware for the PlayStation 4 introduces stickers to messages, currently based around Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Knack, LittleBigPlanet 3, Resogun, and more.
It's unclear whether deployment of the update will take place at the same time for all regions, and Sony is not yet saying how big the package is so that users can prepare for the time required to download and apply it.
