The game is smashing all kinds of records

PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS managed to become Steam’s most played game in a very short time, surpassing titles that seemed unbeatable.

Is we were to look at PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS objectively, the game would have a hard time passing as a successful title. First of all, the game isn’t even finished yet, but that’s not all that strange for Steam.

Secondly, it doesn’t even look that good. The animations are choppy, the physics is not much better, and there isn’t all that much content, to begin with, given that it’s still in development. Still, PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS is somehow successful, and that has to do with the gameplay and overall experience.

Being the best is temporary

Just like in any other field, being the best will only get you so far. Another game is waiting around the corner to take that crown, but until then PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS is king of the hill.

Developers announced that their title managed to rack more than 1.34 million concurrent gamers, an all-time high for the platform. It’s way more than DOTA 2 and anything else on the platform, including Counter-Strike. I’m mentioning this game because it’s believed that players that used to play a lot of CS are now moving in another direction.

It’s not clear how much time this game is going to remain in production, but the developers do update it all the time and bring new content.

PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS is a Battle Royale-type game, meaning that everyone is fighting to stay alive on a small island. They have to find weapons and survive. It’s all powered by Unreal Engine 4, which means that it looks good and it doesn’t need important system requirements.

Steam itself has been growing as a platform in the past few years, and there is no sign that it’s slowing down. It also means that it’s going to drag games along with its growth as well.
