14 DAY TRIAL // Apple’s anniversary iPhone 8 is expected to arrive this fall, and considering that it’s one of the most anticipated smartphones of this year, it’s no wonder that leaks surface on a daily basis. The latest reveal alleged images of an iPhone 8 prototype.
The pictures depict a dummy unit of the iPhone 8 and they don’t come from alleged schematics, as previous leaks. Benjamin Geskin says Foxconn confirmed the device as a CNC dummy model of what will be the iPhone 8.
However, take the images with a grain of salt, as we’ve seen some reports revealing that Apple could place the Touch ID at the rear of the iPhone 8, while the dummy images suggest that the fingerprint sensor could be incorporated beneath the display.
Infrared biometric sensor in the front
That being said, some of the dummy unit’s features are in line with previous rumors, including the vertical dual-camera setup on the back. The front panel comes with almost no bezel, being completely covered by the OLED display. It’s also worth mentioning that the dummy unit doesn’t feature an Apple logo on the back, while the final retail version will surely have Apple’s branding.
The unit also reveals a design with slight curves at the edges, very typical to 2.5D displays, and an aluminum edge, as it was previously rumored. The phone also appears to have a Lightning port and Geskin reveals that it will have 4mm bezels, together with a dual front-camera setup. Regarding the smartphone’s thickness and size, it is said to be identical to the iPhone 7.
Recently leaked pictures of iPhone 8 motherboard and internal structure show the A11 processor, WiFi unit and True Tone technology on the new phone. They also hint towards a 3D sensor on the front, next to the infrared biometric sensor and speakers at the bottom. A "function area" with virtual capacitive buttons can also be distinguished from the schematics.
