Philips is a well-known company that doesn’t produce anything, but for a certain fee allows other companies to put its brand on their products. The same goes for smartphones, which are only available in China and a few other Asian countries.

The Chinese market is still home to Philips, the smartphone maker, but if you live in another country you probably won’t be able to find any handset with this brand.

That being said, it looks like Philips has another Android smartphone in the pipeline, which is expected to go official in the next couple of months. According to a new report, Philips S653H has just been certified at TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission, which is why we believe it will be unveiled very soon.

Obviously, the smartphone will be launched on the market under a different moniker, but for now, we will refer to it with its model number, Philips S653H.

Thanks to its listing at TENAA, we know the upcoming smartphone will sport a large 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.

Powerful octa-core CPU and 8MP selfie camera

On the inside, Philips’ high-end smartphone will pack a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek processor, though the chipset hasn’t been named, so, it could be either the Helio X10 or Helio P10.

The powerful CPU is paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Philips S653H feature an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with dual-LED flash, autofocus, and video recording, as well as another 8-megapixel camera on the front for selfies and video calls.

More good news includes the fact that it will ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system right out of the box, and a fingerprint scanner on the backside.

Sadly, Philips S653H is powered by a 2,550 mAh battery, which might be a little bit too low for the hardware inside. It’s also worth mentioning the smartphone features a full metal body and weighs 150g (battery included).

There’s no word on price yet, but don’t expect to be able to get the Philips S653H unless you’re living in China or one of the Asian countries where the smartphone might be launched.
