Peppermint OS developer Mark Greaves announced today, November 29, 2016, the release and immediate availability of the first ISO respin image of the Peppermint 7 Linux operating system.

Sporting all the latest updates from the upstream repositories of the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system, the Peppermint-7-20161129 image is now powered by the 4.4.0-47 kernel with all the recent security patches. The new ISO also includes the HPLIP (HP Linux Imaging and Printing) software for out-of-the-box support for HP printers and scanners.

"Team Peppermint are pleased to announce the release of the Peppermint 7 Respin, in both 32bit and 64bit editions," reads today's announcement. "If you need help installing the Peppermint 7 Respin, or have any questions about using it, we have a second-to-none user support team at forum.peppermintos.com. Please drop in even if only for a chat with friendly like-minded people."

New GRUB background and Plymouth splash screen added

The Peppermint-7-20161129 image comes with new GRUB bootloader background image and Plymouth boot splash screen, a brand new Ubiquity installer slideshow, as well as a bunch of beautiful desktop wallpapers from Ray Bilcliff. Additionally, the developers included the pulseaudio-module-bluetooth package to offer out-of-the-box support for Bluetooth headsets.

A few of the bugs reported by users from the Peppermint 7 release have been fixed as well. Among these, we can mention the multimedia keyboard function keys, the browsing of Samba (SMB) network printers, and that annoying Google Chrome keyring prompt. Last but not least, the "Firefox Themer" was renamed to "Firefox Theme Lock" and the Update Manager tool won't prompt for an upgrade to the next "Ubuntu LTS" version.

Download the Peppermint-7-20161129 Live ISO image right now through our website if you want to reinstall your Peppermint 7 installation or plan on deploying the GNU/Linux distro on new computers. Don't download the image if you just want to keep your Peppermint 7 computer up to date. For that, just make sure that all the latest software updates have been installed via Update Manager or Synaptic.
