His ability to carry more “serious” roles has already been acknowledged and praised by movie critics, but at this year’s edition of People’s Choice Awards, Hugh Jackman was honored for his skills as an action movie star. The Australian actor was named Favorite Action star for his part as Wolverine, Comic Book Movie informs.

Understandably, all eyes were on Jackman during his acceptance speech, perhaps because the star is known to drop hints about his future projects while saying his thank yous. That didn’t happen at this most recent awards ceremony, though, much to the disappointment of fans who were hoping for at least some minor details about the next installment in the much-hyped “X-Men” franchise.

What Jackman did say, however, was that now he could safely run for governor of California and actually stand a chance, in what was meant as a joke based on the Schwarzenegger experience. “Between being an action star and foreign born, there’s only one thing left for me to do. And that’s run for governor of California,” the actor said in front of a packed audience at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

Other winners of the night included Sandra Bullock for Favorite Actress, who thus capped off a fabulous year that even had her set a new record: that of being the first female star to carry a film across the $200 million domestically, all alone, as we also informed you yesterday. Vampires were also big winners of the night both in the feature film category (“Twilight,” of course, and its cast members) and on television (“True Blood” and “Vampire Diaries”).
