The first day of 2017 also brought Open Source software lovers a new stable version of the freely distributed and multiplatform PeaZip archive manager tool for GNU/Linux, BSD, and Windows platforms.

The PeaZip 6.3.0 release continues the refresh of the program's graphical user interface by improving DPI awareness on all supported operating systems, lets users programmatically set the default language of the application via a new command-line option called "-peaziplanguage" or directly from the installer (only Microsoft Windows).

"Second parameter is the name of the localization file, proper localization directory 'lang' is resolved by the program, example: peazip.exe -peaziplanguage it.txt," read the release notes. "Please note [that] if other instances of PeaZip are open, they will overwrite [the] language in [default] configuration when they close."

PeaZip can now manage a total of 188 file extensions

The list of changes continues with the availability of a hamburger menu button in the tabs bar, offering users an alternative way to the archiving and extraction context menu, along with new archive update options that can be used to update items that are already present in the archive and synchronize it with the local changes.

Furthermore, it looks like the archive creation screen saw a few improvements here and there, installer-mode sfx modules have been added for 7z support and are available from the Advanced Options tab, and the archiving action options were replicated in the main options page to support 7z and p7zip archive types.

This provides new update options, including the ability to update only the items that are already available in the archive while ignoring extra items from the local disk, and support for synchronizing the archive with the local content available on the drive, removing the archive's items if removed from disk.

Last but not least, PeaZip 6.3.0 improves the Windows installer with the ability to set the default locale, support for dividing the extraction, archiving, browsing and tool groups via separators, and comes with the implementation of "CRC, hash and file tools" (PeaUtils) as default entry.
