It would appear that the PCLinuxOS 64 2016.06 MATE Edition was first teased by developer Texstar to the PCLinuxOS Linux community a couple of days ago, on June 1, 2016, promising to offer them an up-to-date 64-bit Live ISO image of the user-friendly GNU/Linux distribution.
We grabbed the torrent image from the popular LinuxTracker website to tell you all about the new features that have been implemented in the PCLinuxOS 64 2016.06 MATE Edition computer OS as well as to give you a quick screenshot tour (accessible at the end of the article).
Now shipping with MATE 1.14 and LibreOffice
The first thing you'll notice when running the PCLinuxOS 64 2016.06 MATE Edition Live DVD is the new and improved MATE 1.14 desktop environment, which brings dozens of improvements covered by us in an in-depth story last month. Actually, the latest version included in PCLinuxOS 64 2016.06 MATE Edition is MATE 1.14.1.
Powered by the long-term supported Linux 4.4.11 kernel (the latest version is Linux kernel 4.4.12 LTS, released on June 1, 2016), PCLinuxOS 64 2016.06 MATE Edition ships with an up-to-date software package from the main repos, revamped boot splash and shutdown screens, as well as the newest LibreOffice 5.1 office suite.
There are, of course, various improvements to make the OS more stable and reliable, such as the re-implementation of the /sbin and /usr/sbin paths to the user path, as well as the removal of the buggy 42_efi file and the qt-update-notifier package that provided users with system tray update notifications.
