14 DAY TRIAL // Today, April 26, 2016, Parted Magic LLC announced the release of the Parted Magic 2016_04_26 Live CD that users can use to do various system administration tasks.
Parted Magic is a paid distribution, an independent commercial project based on popular open-source software projects, such as the widely used Gparted partition editor, TestDisk partition recovery and file undelete tool, and of course, the Linux kernel.
Today's Parted Magic 2016_04_26 release of the commercial Live CD provides updated partitioning and data recovery tools, among which we can mention Linux kernel 4.5.2, TestDisk 7.1, AMDGPU (xf86-video-amdgpu) 1.1.0, OpenSSL 1.0.1s, OpenSSH 7.2p2, Mozilla Firefox 45.0.2, GNU ddrescue 1.21, NTFS-3G 2016.2.22, Mozilla NSS 3.23, and wimlib 1.9.0.
Continuing, the xf86-video-ati 7.7.0, xf86-video-openchrome 0.4.0, and xf86-video-intel git_20160418_562ae1f video drivers have been added, along with kernel-firmware 20160413git. Two new packages have been added as well, GNU Diffutils 3.3 and nvme-cli 0.6, providing users with support for secure erasing NVMe SSD drives.
"This version of Parted Magic supports Secure Erase of NVMe SSD. These are different than ATA Solid State Drives, so a new GUI had to be written. The new GUI is very similar to the ATA Secure Erase GUI. It’s located in the 'Erase Disk' menu right under the ATA Secure Erase button," reads today's announcement.
The Google Chrome web browser has been removed
And now for the bad news, as the Google Chrome web browser has been removed from this release of Parted Magic, because Google dropped support for 32-bit GNU/Linux operating systems.
Mozilla Firefox is installed by default, but if you still want to use the proprietary browser from Google, you'll find 64-bit Chromium modules in the support forums. You can purchase the Parted Magic 2016_04_26 Live CD from the project's official website.
