14 DAY TRIAL // The Parsix GNU/Linux developers are informing us today, August 8, 2016, about the end-of-life development status of the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus" operating system, urging users to upgrade to the most recent release.
Dubbed Atticus, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 was announced only seven months ago, on February 14, 2016, based on the Debian GNU/Linux 8.5 "Jessie" operating system. It shipped with Linux 4.1.17 kernel injected with the BFS and TuxOnIce 3.3 patches, as well as the GNOME 3.18 desktop environment with the GNOME Shell 3.18.3 user interface.
The end of life (EOL) was reached yesterday, August 7, 2016, which means that users of Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus" will no longer receive software updates and security patches, thus they urgently need to upgrade to the most stable and advanced version of the GNU/Linux operating system, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik."
"Parsix GNU/Linux project is going to stop security and technical support for version 8.5 (Atticus) as of September 30, 2016," reveals the development team in the official announcement. "We encourage Atticus users to upgrade their systems to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10."
Atticus software repositories will go offline on October 10, 2016
On the bright side, you'll have until October 10, 2016, to move to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik," as the software repositories for Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus" will remain online until then. After October 10, they will go offline to make room for the next major release of the GNU/Linux distribution, whose name has not yet been revealed.
In other good news, you can still use Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus" on your personal computer and keep it up to date via the Debian Jessie "updates" and "security" repositories, as the distro is binary compatible with the Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" operating system.
