Today, December 14, the Parsix GNU/Linux developers announced the release and immediate availability for download of the second TEST build of their upcoming Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus" computer operating system.

According to the release notes of Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 TEST2, the distribution has been rebased on the long-term supported Linux 4.1.8 kernel and comes with updates for many of its core components and pre-installed applications.

Before going into details about the included updates, we should mention that Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 TEST2 has been synchronized with the upstream software repositories of the Debian GNU/Linux 8.2 (Jessie) operating system as of September 21, 2015.

"Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 (code name Atticus) ships with stable GNOME 3.18 desktop environment and an updated kernel. This version has been synchronized with Debian Jessie repositories as of November 14, 2015. arsix Atticus ships with GNOME 3.18 and LibreOffice 4.3.3 productivity suit by default," reads today's announcement.

What's new in Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus" TEST2

Probably the most important change in Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus" TEST2 is the upgrade to the recently released GNOME 3.18.2 desktop environment, which includes the modern GNOME Shell 3.18.3 user interface, and many of its goodies.

Among the applications updated in Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus" TEST2, we can mention X.Org Server 1.16.4, GNU Iceweasel 42.0, Chromium Browser 47.0, LibreOffice 4.3.3, Glibc 2.19, Gparted 0.19.0, Empathy 3.12.11, GIMP 2.8.14, Grisbi 1.0.0, VirtualBox 4.3.30, Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.521, GRUB 2, and VLC Media Player 2.2.1.
