We reported a couple of days ago that the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus" operating system had reached end of life on September 30, 2016, and its repositories will be closing too on October 10 to make room for the next Parsix GNU/Linux release.

That's right, we're talking here about Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev," which was already announced last week by the developers of the Debian-based operating system and we reported about it right here on this space. It looks like work on Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" has already begun, and the development team is teasing us with its new features.

Therefore, we would like to inform our readers that Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" will ship with the same long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel that's also used in the current stable release, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik," and it will be built around the recently released GNOME 3.22 desktop environment.

Based on Debian GNU/Linux 8.6 "Jessie"

Best of all, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" will be based entirely on the Debian GNU/Linux 8.6 "Jessie" operating system, thus sticking with a very stable and well-tested base. Also, the team has revealed recently that Mozilla Firefox 49.0 is the default web browser for the upcoming distribution.

What we don't know right now is when the first TEST build will be made available to public beta testers, so we can get an early taste of what's coming to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" later this year. We also have no idea when the final release will hit the streets, but rest assured that we'll be the first to announce it here, in our news section.

In related news, the Parsix GNU/Linux developers released an updated kernel based on the upstream Linux 4.4.23 LTS kernel, for both Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" and Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev," so make sure that you update your systems as soon as possible. Stay tuned for more details soon!
