Just days after its official release, the Debian-based Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" operating system received its first point release, which brings new, up-to-date components and fixes critical issues.

Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15r1 is now the latest stable and most advanced version of the distribution, shipping with the recently released Linux 4.4.48 LTS kernel, patched with BFS and TuxOnIce, to address a regression for Intel Skylake chips. Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15r0, the initial release of the OS, was powered by Linux kernel 4.4.44 LTS.

"Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 (code name Nev) ships with stable GNOME 3.22 desktop environment and an updated kernel. This version fixes a regression with Intel HD graphics driver and Skylake and newer family of chips, comes with an updated kernel and several package updates," reads today's announcement.

The OS is now fully in sync with the Debian Jessie repos

Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15r1 "Nev" has been synchronized with the Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" repositories as of February 12, 2017, which means that it now includes all the latest security updates that Debian Linux users also received. The desktop environment remains based on the GNOME 3.22.2, though some packages were updated.

Included in the new ISO images users will find the GNOME Shell 3.22.2 user interface enabled by default, GRUB 2 bootloader, Mozilla Firefox 51.0.1 as default web browser, VirtualBox 4.3.36 virtualization software, LibreOffice 4.3.3 office suite, Empathy 3.12.12 instant messenger, Gparted 0.19.0 partition editor, and Adobe Flash Player 24.0.0.194.

Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15r1 is now available for download as LiveISO images for 64- and 32-bit hardware architectures, compressed using the latest XZ and SquashFS compression algorithms. Existing users don't need to download these ISOs to update their installations, but only to make sure their systems are up to date.
