It's been a month since we've told you about the newest security updates that landed in the stable software repositories of the Debian-based Parsix GNU/Linux operating system, and it's time to keep you guys up to date with what's going on.

First of all, the Parsix GNU/Linux developers were quite busy lately pushing the final release of Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" out the door, which is based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux 8.7 "Jessie" operating system, the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel, and GNOME 3.22 desktop environment.

That doesn't mean the other supported version, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik," did not receive any new security updates, which are always tracked and backported from the Debian Stable "updates" and "security" repositories. Of course, all these security updates also landed in the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev."

"Parsix Developers closely follow Debian Security Advisories and port them to our own security repository. Right now we are offering security support for both of our stable and testing branches. Parsix Continent repository is also fully supported by security updates," reads the security page of Parsix GNU/Linux.

Among the packages that have been updated since our last report last month, we can mention Wordpress, Chromium, tcpdump, NTFS-3G, OpenSSL, MariaDB, MySQL-5.5, BIND9, Icedove, OpenJPEG2, SVG Salamander, Little CMS, MapServer, PowerDNS, PowerDNS Recursor, ikiwiki, RabbitMQ, icoutils, Ruby, tiff, libgd2, libxpm, libphp-swiftmailer, and python-pysaml2,

Parsix GNU/Linux is now powered by Linux kernel 4.4.47 LTS

In other good news, the Parsix GNU/Linux developers have announced today, February 7, 2017, that both supported releases have received the latest Mozilla Firefox 51.0.1 web browser and Linux 4.4.47 LTS kernel. Therefore, we recommend that you update your installations as soon as possible.

To update, simply run the "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" command in a terminal emulator, or use the Synaptic Package Manager utility. As this update also includes a new kernel, you'll have to reboot your system after installing the new package versions.

In related news, the Parsix GNU/Linux devs announced the other day that the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" operating system would reach end of life on March 31, 2017, and its repositories will go offline on April 15, so you'll have about nine weeks to upgrade to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev," which you can download right now from our website.
