It's been three weeks since the last security updates landed for the Debian-based Parsix GNU/Linux operating system, and today, October 13, 2016, the development team announced the availability of multiple security updates from Debian Stable.

Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" is currently the latest stable and most advanced version of the distro, which launched officially on the last day of July 2016, based on Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie," which means that its software repositories are always in sync with upstream to keep the OS secure and reliable until it reaches end of life.

And today you'll have to update your Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" installation, as it has received security updates for multiple core components and applications, including PHP5, NSS, NSPR, IceDove, libav, Chromium, Wordpress, libdbd-mysql-perl, Jackrabbit, BIND9, and c-ares.

"Parsix Developers closely follow Debian Security Advisories and port them to our own security repository. Right now we are offering security support for both of our stable and testing branches," reads the project's security page. "Parsix Continent repository is also fully supported by security updates."

Now powered by Linux kernel 4.4.24 LTS

Also updated today are the kernel packages, which are now based on the recently released Linux 4.4.24 LTS kernel. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you update your Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" system(s) as soon as possible to receive the security updates mentioned above and keep your installation healthy and secure.

Details on how to update can be found at http://www.parsix.org/wiki/Security. In the meantime, work continues on the upcoming Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" release, whose software repositories are now open for development and filled with the same security updates and Linux kernel package mentioned in this article.
