The Parsix GNU/Linux developers have announced today, August 17, 2016, that their Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" operating system has received a bunch of security updates from the upstream Debian GNU/Linux repositories.

Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" is the stable version of the desktop-oriented operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux 8.5 "Jessie, officially released on July 31, 2016. The major OS brought lots of up-to-date Open Source and GNU/Linux technologies, but that doesn't mean the development stops there.

Therefore, we would like to inform those of you who are already using the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" operating system on their personal computer that it has just received various of the security updates released upstream, on the Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" software repositories.

These include updates to the Wireshark network protocol analyzer, Icedove email and news client, PostgreSQL advanced open-source database, Chromium web browser, Lighttpd lightweight open-source web server, Mozilla Firefox ESR, WordPress blogging platform, cURL data transfer tool, Fontconfig font configuration utilities, OpenJDK open-source Java support, and KDE4 libraries.

Users are urged to update their systems as soon as possible

The Parsix GNU/Linux development team urges everyone using Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" to update their installations as soon as possible using the official channels and the default package management tools, either via command-line or graphical UI. It would appear that these security updates also apply to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus," which reached end of life on August 8, 2016.

More details about the new security updates pushed to the main software repositories of Parsix GNU/Linux can be found at http://www.parsix.org/wiki/Security. If you're still using Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus," we recommend that you upgrade to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" as soon as possible, which you can download right now via our website for 64-bit and 32-bit platforms.
