Today, July 31, 2016, the development team behind the Parsix GNU/Linux operating system has had the great pleasure of announcing the release of Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik."

Powered by a kernel from the Linux 4.4 LTS series, version 4.4.16, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10r0 is the first stable update of the Debian-based distribution. It includes all the latest software updates and security patches from the upstream Debian GNU/Linux 8.5 "Jessie" repositories.

"Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 (code name Erik) ships with stable GNOME 3.20 desktop environment and a brand new kernel. This version has been synchronized with Debian Jessie repositories as of July 30 2016. Parsix Erik ships with LibreOffice 4.3.3 productivity suit by default," reads today's announcement.

Here's what's new in Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10

Release highlights of Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10r0 include the GNOME 3.20.2 desktop environment with the GNOME Shell 3.20.3 interface, Mozilla Firefox 47.0.1 web browser, LibreOffice 4.3.3 office suite, VirtualBox 4.3.36 virtualization manager, Gparted 0.19.0 partition editor, Empathy 3.12.12 instant messenger, and GIMP 2.8.14 image editor.

Moreover, the distro ships with the X.Org Server 1.16.4 display server, GLibc (GNU C Library) 2.19, Grisbi 1.0.0 finance manager, Chromium 51.0 web browser, VLC Media Player 2.2.1 video player, as well as Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.626. The Linux 4.4.16 LTS kernel has been patched with BFS and TuxOnIce.
