The Parsix GNU/Linux devs have just announced the release and immediate availability for download of the second test build of the upcoming Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" operating system.

Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" Test 1 comes one and a half months after the release of the Test 0 build, and it looks like the entire system has been synchronized with Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" software repositories as of April 27, 2016. The distro is now powered by Linux kernel 4.4.8 LTS and ships with the latest GNOME 3.20.1 desktop environment.

"Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 (code name Erik) ships with stable GNOME 3.20 desktop environment and a brand new kernel. This version has been synchronized with Debian Jessie repositories as of April 27 2016. Parsix Erik ships with LibreOffice 4.3.3 productivity suite by default," reads today's announcement.

What's new in Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" Test 1

Updated software packages in Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" Test 1 include the LibreOffice 4.3.3 office suite installed by default, GNOME Shell 3.20.1 as default user interface, GRUB2 bootloader, Mozilla Firefox 45.0.2 web browser, Oracle VirtualBox 4.3.36 virtualization software, Empathy 3.12.11 IM client, and Gparted 0.19.0 partition editor.

Moreover, X.Org Server 1.16.4 is now the default display server for Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik," which also ships with the latest Chromium 50.0 web browser, GIMP 2.8.14 image editor, VLC Media Player 2.2.1 video player, Grisbi 1.0.0 financial management program, and the Glibc 2.19 core library. The OS' brand-new kernel is based on Linux 4.4.8 LTS and patched with TuxOnIce 3.3 and BFS.

Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik" Test 1 is available for early adopters and public beta testers right now via our website for both 64-bit and 32-bit computers. Please note that the Live ISO images have been compressed using the latest XZ and SquashFS compression methods and that this is still a pre-release version of Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 "Erik," not suitable for production use.
