The distro will be based on Debian 8 "Jessie"

The Parsix GNU/Linux developers were happy to announce that the first snapshot towards the anticipated Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 distribution is now available for download and testing.

Dubbed Mumble, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 will be the first release of the operating system to be built around the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, and powered by latest Linux kernel 4.0 technologies.

Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 Test 1 is now out for testing and has been synchronized with the upstream software repositories of the Debian GNU/Linux 8 (Jessie) operating system. The built-in installer has been updated in this release, and there are numerous under-the-hood improvements, as well as updated packages.

"Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (code name Mumble) brings stable GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, a brand new kernel and an updated installer. This version has been synchronized with Debian Jessie repositories as of July 1, 2015. Parsix Mumble ships with GNOME 3.16 and LibreOffice 4.3.3 productivity suit by default," reads the announcement.

Highlights of Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 Test 1

Prominent features of Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 Test 1 include improved UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) support in the installer system, upgrade to the GNOME 3.16 Stack, including the GNOME-Shell 3.16.2 user interface, GNU Iceweasel 38.0.1, LibreOffice 4.3.3, Oracle VirtualBox 4.3.28, Gparted 0.19.0, and Empathy 3.12.10.

Additionally, the distribution comes with the X.Org Server 1.16.4, Chromium 43.0, Glibc 2.19, GIMP 2.8.14, Grisbi 1.0.0, VLC Media Player 2.2.1, Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.468, and Linux kernel 4.0.5, which has been injected with some extra patches, such as BFS (Brain Fuck Scheduler) and TuxOnIce 3.3.

Those of you who want to test the upcoming distribution can download Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 Test 1 right now via Softpedia, where they will find 32- and 64-bit Live DVD ISO images that have been compressed using the XZ and SquashFS methods. Please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version and it's not recommended for production environments.
