The Parsix GNU/Linux Project has just announced the release and immediate availability for download and testing of the third development milestone towards the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) operating system.

Being based on the upstream repositories of the Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" operating system, as well as on the most advanced and stable Linux 4.1.6 LTS (Long-Term Support) kernel, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 Test 3 is here to bring you the latest stable release of the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, which comes with the modern GNOME Shell 3.16.3 user interface.

The installer has received numerous improvements and some of the most important applications and core components have been updated in the third Test release of the upcoming Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) distribution, among which we can mention GLibc 2.19, X.Org Server 1.16.4, LibreOffice 4.3.3, Chromium 43.0, GNU Iceweasel 40.0, Gparted 0.19.0, Empathy 3.12.10, GIMP 2.8.14, Grisbi 1.0.0, VirtualBox 4.3.28, VLC Media Player 2.2.1, and Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.491.

"Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (code name Mumble) brings stable GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, a brand new kernel and an updated installer. This version has been synchronized with Debian Jessie repositories as of July 25, 2015," reads the announcement.

Linux kernel 4.1.6 LTS has received extra patches

As expected with any new release of the Parsix GNU/Linux operating system, the included kernel packages, this time based on Linux 4.1.6 LTS, have received extra patches, such as Brain Fuck Scheduler (BFS) and TuxOnIce 3.3. Additionally, it is a known fact that Parsix GNU/Linux ships with Live DVD ISO images for 64-bit and 32-bit hardware architectures that have been compressed with the modern and powerful XZ and SquashFS compression algorithms.

You can download Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 Test 3 right now from Softpedia, but please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, which means that it contains many known and unknown issues that might affect the overall user experience or damage your computer. Thus, we don't recommend installing this unstable version on a production machine where stability is of the essence.
