The developers of the Debian-based Parsix GNU/Linux computer operating system have announced the general availability of a new Linux kernel version for all of its supported OSes.

Therefore, today we would like to inform all users of the Parsix GNU/Linux distribution that they can install the long-term supported Linux 4.1.15 kernel in the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) and Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 (Atticus) releases of the operating system.

Linux kernel 4.1.15 LTS was released earlier this month and brings several improvements to the Btrfs, EXT4, Ceph, NFS, JBD2, and OCFS2 filesystems, multiple updated drivers, along with enhancements to the networking stack.

"An updated kernel based on Linux 4.1.15 is now available for Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) and 8.5 (Atticus). Update your systems to install it," says the Parsix GNU/Linux developer in a brief announcement made on the project's Facebook page.

How to keep your Parsix GNU/Linux installation up to date

As usual, the Parsix GNU/Linux developers recommend their users to install all the available updates as soon as possible if they want to have the new Linux kernel version and every other software update that has been released in the last days or so.

Additionally, it is advisable that you add the following entries in your /etc/apt/sources.list file if you want to keep your Parsix GNU/Linux installation secure. Please remember to replace codename in the lines below with the release codename of your Parisx OS (e.g. mumble or atticus).

code
deb http://security.parsix.org codename main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.parsix.org codename main contrib non-free
To update, run the following set of commands in the Terminal app. Alternatively, you can monitor the update notifier and apply any existing update to keep your system secure. More details can be found at Parsix's Security Updates page.
code
apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
