Parrot 3.7 is out and it's based on Linux kernel 4.11

The developers of the Parrot Security OS ethical hacking and penetration testing distro announced today the release and immediate availability for download of Parrot Security OS 3.7.

Parrot Security OS 3.7 comes about seven weeks after the 3.6 release, which probably many of you are using these days on your personal computers, and the biggest change is that it's been rebased on the Debian Testing repositories, which, in time, will become Debian GNU/Linux 10 "Buster."

Initially, when work started on the Parrot Security OS 3.7, the developers wanted to rebase their distro on recently released, at that time, Devuan GNU/Linux 1.0 operating system as they've encountered multiple issues with the systemd init system, but it looks like they changed their minds, at least for now.

"Of course the release of Debian 9 as the new stable branch brought many important changes in Debian, but for those distributions based on Debian Testing, the main change was the introduction of many many updated packages," said the devs. "The most important change is the core, which is now based on Debian 10 (Testing)."

Raspberry Pi builds will soon be refreshed

Another interesting change implemented in today's release of Parrot Security OS 3.7 is the fact that the kernel packages have been rebased on the Linux 4.11 series from the long-term supported Linux 4.9 one that was available in the previous builds of the operating system, those adding support for more recent hardware components.

Also worth mentioning is the introduction of the Arc GTK+ theme as default system theme for the Live ISOs and new installations. The auto-updater component was updated as well, and it looks like it's now capable of displaying the progress of system upgrades.

Other than that, the devs resolved several nasty crashes and are now preparing to refresh the Raspberry Pi builds of the distribution while also promising to add support for more single-board computers, such as PINE A64. Until then, you can download Parrot Security OS 3.7 right now from our website.
