The development team behind the Parrot Security OS announced the official availability of the 3.6 release, a maintenance update that focuses on reliability and stability of the security-oriented operating system for ethical hacking.

Parrot Security OS 3.6 has been in development for the past two and a half months, and while it may not introduce any major new features, it attempts to improve the build platform and various key components of the operating system to make it better, more reliable and less resource hungry.

The new release was already made available for download earlier this week, but only now did its developers manage to give us a glimpse of the improvements implemented during this past several months. Parrot Security OS 3.6 comes with the usual Full, Lite and Studio editions, as well as a brand-new Parrot AIR flavor.

"Parrot AIR is very similar to Parrot Full, but it only integrates our subset of tools dedicated to wireless testing," said the devs. "It was developed for the new AIRBUD board, a very powerful mix between a wireless station and an embedded x86 computer developed by Alftel."

Support for the new PineBook Linux laptop is coming soon

Another area where the Parrot Security OS 3.6 release received improvements was the Lite edition, which can now be installed on computers with only 200 MB of RAM (system memory), and the Anonsurf tool, which received a major update to make the anonymity and privacy sections a lot more reliable.

Work on supporting more ARM platforms continues, and the Parrot Security OS team is announcing that updated images for Raspberry Pi and PINE64 single-board computers are coming soon, along with a new image that will make it possible for users to install the operating system on the $89 Pinebook Linux laptop.

Parrot Security OS 3.6 is available for download right now on our website, where you'll find all the editions mentioned above. We also recommend that you keep an eye on the distro's homepage for upcoming community events dedicated to teaching IT security basics, as well as other advanced topics.
