Panasonic has just announced the Toughbook 33, the company’s latest rugged 2-in-1 device running Windows 10 created to withstand the most extreme conditions.

The new Toughbook was developed from the very beginning to be as durable as possible, so it features a fully-rugged design with magnesium alloy chassis that granted MIL-STD-810G and IP65 all-weather ratings. The device comes with an IP55 digitizer pen that works in absolutely all weather conditions, the company guarantees.

Likely to be used on construction sites, the new Panasonic comes with an anti-reflective display measuring 12 inches and featuring a 3:2 aspect ratio with 2160x1440 pixel resolution. It offers capacitive gloved input and features 1200 nits for excellent readability in direct sunlight.

Top processors and long battery life

In terms of performance, the Toughbook comes with nothing but the best. There are two versions, namely an Intel Core i5-7300U vPro 2.6GHz chip (with an i7 7600U available as optional) and Intel Core i5-6300U vPro 2.4GHz unit (this time with an i7-6600U sold optionally). Both configurations run Windows 10 Pro, but the latter can be downgraded to Windows 7 Pro as well.

There’s also up to 16GB RAM and a maximum of 256GB storage, with a battery that’s supposed to offer up to 20 hours of autonomy. Panasonic, however, designed the battery compartment with a twin-unit layout, so it supports hot-swap battery replacements.

There are all kinds of extra features, including cameras, Windows Hello support for facial recognition, iris and fingerprint scanner, a series of accessories like barcode scanners, as well as a detachable keyboard that’s sold separately.

All of these do not come cheap, and the Toughbook will go on sale this month starting at $3,650. It goes without saying that the higher you go in terms of specs, the more you have to pay, but for companies that want to go fully digital on construction sites, this is quite a product.
