The app can be found in the store on insider PCs

Microsoft introduced the all-new Paint 3D app during its event a few hours ago and now insiders can also download it if they’re running the latest preview builds.

Paint 3D is a completely evolved version of the classic Paint app, and the 3D tag in its name signals a completely new approach for Microsoft, as the company now seems to be investing heavily in migrating away from 2D visuals.

Paint 3D is essentially a solution that’s supposed to make the creation of 3D content accessible to all users, as it comes with a user-friendly interface, but also with straightforward features which can be easily launched straight from the main screen, just like it was the case of the original Paint app.

Still in preview stage

What’s important to note, however, is that Paint 3D is still in preview stage at the moment, so some of the features you get access to right now could change before the debut of the Creators Update for Windows 10 in spring 2017.

Furthermore, it is only available on computers running the latest Windows 10 preview builds and cannot be installed on machines that are not enrolled in the Windows Insider program.

“Over 100 million people use it every month,” Microsoft said about the original Paint app during its October 26 event, explaining that going 3D is just the next logical step for the company.

Paint 3D is part of a new portfolio of solutions that allows you to quickly scan an object with a mobile phone and get a 3D digital version that can then be further improved on a Windows 10 device. Unfortunately, the Paint 3D app is exclusive to PC, and although it works like a charm with a pen, there’s still no indication that Microsoft could bring it on mobile phones.

The Creators Update is projected to launch in early 2017, so we’ll hear more about Microsoft’s plans in the coming months.
