ownCloud has announced today, April 7, 2016, the immediate availability of the first point release in the stable 9.0 series of the open-source self-hosting cloud server software.

Yes, that's right, we're talking about ownCloud 9.0.1, which comes exactly one month after the unveiling of the major ownCloud 9.0 Server release, which introduced a huge number of features and improvements, including code signing. Best of all, ownCloud is now used by over 8 million users around the globe.

But today's first point release of ownCloud 9.0 is here to make the self-hosting cloud server software even more powerful, stable, and reliable, by introducing over 120 improvements in various areas, such as encryption, federation, sharing, LDAP, CalDAV, CardDAV, Contacts, Calendar, and external storage.

Here's what's new in ownCloud 9.0.1

The release notes are huge, and we've attached them at the end of the article for your reading pleasure. In the meantime, we can tell you that ownCloud 9.0.1 adds support for migrating calendars to all users, allows group shares without public key, makes it possible to update from ownCloud 8.2.2, and adds chunk upload for GDrive.

"Last month we released ownCloud 9.0, bringing major new features like comments, tagging and remove-server auto complete to you. As always we’ve been working hard to polish this release further, improving performance, reliability and scalability with ownCloud 9.0.1," reads today's announcement.

All users running ownCloud 9.0.0 are urged to upgrade to today's 9.0.1 release as soon as possible, and if you're not running ownCloud 9.0, you should also update because the latest branch includes a whole lot of new cutting-edge functionality that is mandatory for any respectable cloud hosting service.
