After having announced the release of the ownCloud 8.0.4 self-hosting cloud server software, ownCloud Inc. has had the pleasure of informing its users about the immediate availability for download of ownCloud Client 1.8.2.

The second maintenance release of the stable 1.8 series of ownCloud Client for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows computer operating systems is here to bring a significant number of new features, as well as to improve the overall performance of the application with which you can easily manage the files stored on an ownCloud server.

According to the attached changelog, ownCloud Client 1.8.2 brings optimizations for the OS X and Microsoft Windows shell integration, it can now be compiled against GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 5.x, supports concurrent OEM installers and uninstallers, adds installer translations, improves the reporting of various error messages, and limits the length of temporary file names.

Moreover, folders with 503 errors are now being ignored, the app can handle mitm cert changes, support for checksum verifications of downloads and uploads has been implemented, it is now possible to open external URLs for certain labels, the UserAgent string has gotten a branding name, the wizard can now display server error messages, and the password user interface has received some improvements.

Numerous other issues have been addressed in this release

ownCloud Desktop Client 1.8.2 fixes numerous other issues, among which we can mention support for running with new credentials in the ConnectonValidator, SyncJournalDB improvements and fixes, rename message fix for ProtocolWidget, lock icon fix for the Wizard, a startup hang, as well as a workaround for a Qt PUT corruption bug.

Last but not least, invalid hrefs are now treated as errors, the error reporting of failed share APIs has been improved, sysadmins can now trigger file upload from the desktop client to the ownCloud server, message overriding and single validator runs are now allowed, the built-in updater has been improved for OS X, checksum verification are now done via config or branding, and 503 errors are now treated as temporary.

A 'Content-Length: 0' header has been added to the MKCOL request, the Setup/Update Mutex theme has been made unique for Windows OSes, the SSL certification dialog can be displayed twice now, and folder Etags are now read again when upgrading the client from version 1.8.0 to 1.8.1.
