ownCloud Accidentally Releases a Faulty 8.0.1 Version, ownCloud 8.0.2 Out Now Updated

Users are urged not to upgrade to ownCloud 8.0.1

This past weekend, we’ve noticed the release of ownCloud 8.0.1, which should’ve been the first maintenance release of ownCloud 8.0. Apparently, this was a Beta release and it was accidentally distributed on some mirrors.

While many users already updated to ownCloud 8.0.1, the company urges them to update again when version 8.0.2 will be released, in order to patch the faulty 8.0.1 release that was accidentally pushed to mirrors worldwide.

“Last week, packages for a beta of the upcoming ownCloud 8.0.1 update hit some mirrors accidentally, and some of our users have updated to this version already. It still had some problems and we’ll release the update in the coming days as ownCloud 8.0.2 to make sure to replace the earlier faulty version,” was stated in the blog post.

Both packages have now been patched and are considered stable

At the moment of writing this article, the ownCloud 8.0.2 package has been released on the official ownCloud download mirrors and the 8.0.1 has been repackaged to include fixes for some bugs, as noted in the ownCloud blog post.

As ownCloud 8.0.2 is not yet officially available from the project's website, we’ve downloaded the package to make sure that it’s version 8.0.2. Below is the content of the version.php file from inside the source archive of ownCloud 8.0.2. As you can see, this is a stable build of ownCloud, created on March 9, 2015.

Update: As indicated by one of our users, the ownCloud 8.0.2 might not be a stable release after all, so we strongly recommend that you wait for ownCloud to make the package officially available on its dedicated download page.

Update 2: At 17:05 UTC, the Arch Linux developers published version 8.0.2 of ownCloud on the official software repositories of the distribution. The package is available for all Arch Linux users. More details can be found here https://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/any/owncloud/.

Update 3: Markus Rex from ownCloud confirmed for Softpedia that the ownCloud 8.0.2 package is not yet released "This is not yet released, only there for staging and final testing. We will announce when things are going public. Possibly tomorrow."
