Oppo is one of the several handset makers that plan to launch new flagship smartphones in the next couple of months. The Chinese company introduced the Super VOOC flash charge technology last month at Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona.

This week, Oppo is expected to announce two new high-end handsets on March 17, the R9 and R9 Plus. Both devices were listed at TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission, a while ago, so we know a little about the R9 and R9 Plus.

Today, a few new pictures showing Oppo R9 and R9 Plus, along with their specs, have leaked online directly from China. The bad news is both smartphones will ship with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, along with ColorOS 3.0 custom skin.

Unfortunately, this might be a deal-breaker for many customers since just about all flagship smartphones launched this year come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow onboard.

Although there are no details on prices yet, judging by the names and specs, the Oppo R9 will be the cheapest of the two. The smartphone will be powered by an octa-core processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.

Sadly, both flagships come with full HD display

The standard R9 sports a 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution. On the back, the phone features a 16-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording while on the front there should be a no less impressive 13-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

The R9 Plus boasts a much larger 6-inch display that’s supposed to support full HD (1080p) resolution as well, which doesn’t bode too well for a flagship smartphone these days.

The enhanced version of Oppo R9 comes equipped with a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, an Adreno 510 graphics processing unit, and 4GB of RAM.

It will come with either 64GB or 128GB storage inside, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. Also, it features the same 16-megapixel rear-facing and 13-megapixel front-facing cameras.

Both devices come with fingerprint sensors under the Home button. Connectivity-wise, they offer 4G LTE and hybrid dual-SIM support, as well as VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS with AGPS.

Last but not least, Oppo R9 will be powered by a 2,850 mAh battery while the R9 Plus includes a much larger 4,120 mAh battery. Both smartphones include Oppo’s VOOC Rapid Charge support.
