The first stable version of Opera Mini was released back in 2005, which means developers celebrate this year the 10th anniversary.

Since its release 10 years ago, Opera Mini has evolved to offer users more options so that they can access the Internet on their own terms, with a choice between two compression modes, high end extreme.

According to developers, the latest version of Opera Mini for Android comes with a new compression technology that allows for even smoother browsing experiences without the browser visually wrecking the websites.

For example, when switching to High-compression mode, Opera Mini will offer a rich experience, as webpages look exactly how they are supposed to look, without them being affected by the hefty compression seen in the past.

Customers benefit from data savings in both compression modes

More importantly, users will be able to benefit from excellent data savings even if they decided to switch to High-compression mode.

On the other hand, when using the Extreme-compression mode, users will experience the data compression expected from the Opera Mini browser. This mode is recommended to those on expensive data plans or unreliable connections.

The latest update for Opera Mini brings a new full screen tab gallery and download improvements. Furthermore, Bookmarks and Saved pages are now fixed entries above the Speed Dial. Also, Saved Pages are now listed in a full screen list that shows both title and URL.

Last but not least, Opera developers confirmed that the new update contains various stability and usability improvements, though no additional details on any of them have been provided.

You can now download Opera Mini for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 2.3 and up.

“Your browser, your choice, your chance to do more on the web. No matter where in the world you are, what kind of connection you have or what you want from the web, Opera Mini gives you more,” state developers in a blog post.
