KDE Framework 5.23.0 and Git 2.9.0 have landed as well

Today, July 8, 2016, openSUSE developer Dominique Leuenberger has informed the openSUSE Tumbleweed community about the latest GNU/Linux technologies and software components that landed in the repositories.

According to Mr. Leuenberger, most of the OpenSuSE developers are on holiday these days, which means that the number of snapshots seeded to users has shrunk in the last weeks from four to three. However, it looks like there were some updates that users need to be aware of and install as soon as possible.

Among these, we can mention the recently introduced Mesa 12.0.0 3D Graphics Library, the first Release Candidate (RC) build of the upcoming LibreOffice 5.2 office suite, the PulseAudio 9.0 sound server, Git 2.9.0 distributed version control system, and KDE Framework 5.23.0.

"Summer holiday is here (at least in the northern hemisphere) - and we can see a slightly reduced beat for new snapshots. I can ‘only’ report three instead of the usual four releases for this week (0701, 0703 and 0705), but the changes were still rather substantial," says Dominique Leuenberger in today's announcement.

KDE Plasma 5.7.0 and Linux kernel 4.6.3 coming up next

In the snapshots that will be released next week or the week after, openSUSE Tumbleweed users will receive various other new GNU/Linux technologies, such as Linux kernel 4.6.3 (that if no newer version is out until then), Freetype 2.8.4 with a new subpixel hinting mode, and the KDE Plasma 5.7.0 desktop environment.

Therefore, if you're running the openSUSE Tumbleweed rolling operating system and you haven't upgraded it in a while, now is the time to do so. You should get excited about the implementation of the Mesa 12.0.0 3D Graphics Library because it will boost the performance of your GPU, and remember to always keep your OS up to date.
