14 DAY TRIAL // Earlier today, January 10, 2016, Dominique Leuenberger from the openSUSE Project has had the great pleasure of publishing details about the snapshots released in the last few weeks for the Tumbleweed branch of the openSUSE Linux operating system.
It would appear that the OpenSuSE Tumbleweed rolling-release distribution has received no less than four snapshots since our last report, which means that most of the operating system's core components and applications have been updated to their latest versions available at the moment of writing this article.
"Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, this is the first review of the year - and will cover the four snapshots 20151231, 20160101, 20160105 and 20160107," says Dominique Leuenberger in today's announcement. "Have a great weekend, I’m looking forward to another exciting year for openSUSE."
Mr. Leuenberger's review starts with the essential information for all openSUSE Tumbleweed users, regarding the issues they reported with the KDE Plasma5, Akanodi and KDEPIM5 software, informing them that the openSUSE team only tests things up to ring2 in stagings, where KDEPIM4 is and KDEPIM5 is not.
As the KDE team will soon fix things for KDEPIM5, they will add the software to the rings, where it will receive the necessary attention. As such, openSUSE Tumbleweed receives an incomplete KDE Applications 5.12.0 software suite, along with KDE Plasma 5.5.2 and KDE Framework 5.17.0.
Upcoming openSUSE Tumbleweed features
In addition to the KDE technologies mentioned above, openSUSE Tumbleweed has received the latest Mesa 11.1.0 3D Graphics Library, updates to most of the libraries, and a redesigned theme, which is based on new graphics. However, the team needs to patch a few glitches here and there to make it usable.
What's coming for openSUSE Tumbleweed? Well, according to Mr. Leuenberger, the development team is working day and night on a more stable KDE Plasma environment, of course, with the complete KDE Apps 5.12.0 software suite, the systemd 228 init system, and GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 5.3.1.
