openSUSE Project's Douglas DeMaio is informing the Tumbleweed community today, January 18, 2017, about the latest software updates and other improvements delivered by a total of two snapshots released last week.

The new updates are addressed more to developers and include Python 2.7.13, python-unidecode 0.04.20, GnuTLS 3.5.8, libproxy 0.4.14, Ruby 2.2.6, GTK+ 3.22.6, Harfbuzz 1.4.1, and OpenVPN 2.3.13.

Also included are the new X.Org Server 1.19 display server, LXDE-Common 0.99.2 for those who prefer the lightweight LXDE desktop environment, the Epiphany 3.22.4 web browser, and FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) 1.3.2.

Tumbleweed prepares for PulseAudio 10.0, systemd 232, and Flatpak 0.8

We know, it's not much, but hey, at least it's something considering the fact that the OpenSuSE Tumbleweed developers have just returned from the well-deserved Christmas and New Year's holidays.

And they now promise to bring all the latest Linux technologies and Open Source software projects to the Tumbleweed rolling operating systems, including Linux kernel 4.9.3, systemd 232, Flatpak 0.8, and the upcoming PulseAudio 10.0 sound system.

"PulseAudio 10.0 includes compatibility with OpenSSL 1.1.0, a fix for hotplugged USB surround sound cards and automatic switching of [the] Bluetooth profile when using VoIP applications," reads today's announcement.

To get these goodies in your openSUSE Tumbleweed installation, you only have to open your favorite terminal emulator or graphical package manager and apply all the available updates.

And remember, it's always a good practice to keep your openSUSE Tumbleweed operating system up to date with the latest security patches and software updates as they address recently discovered vulnerabilities and other bugs.

On the other hand, feel free to also experience the rock-solid stability and reliability of the openSUSE Leap 42.2 operating system, which is derived from SUSE's Enterprise Linux 12 Service Pack 2 release.
