On December 15, 2016, openSUSE Project's Douglas DeMaio had the great pleasure to report on the latest goodies brought by a total of seven snapshots to users of the openSUSE Tumbleweed distribution.

Since our last report, it looks like another busy week hit the development team behind OpenSuSE Tumbleweed, a Linux-based operating system that follows a rolling release model, which means that users are always getting the latest software versions without the need to download a new ISO image and reinstall/upgrade their systems.

Seven snapshots for Tumbleweed means that there wasn't a single day without a new snapshot release, and they introduced updates for multiple components. For example, python3-setuptools was updated to version 30.2.0, the GStreamer packages to version 1.10.2, and the FFmpeg multimedia framework to 3.2.2.

"The beginning of the week started with snapshot 20161208 that had a change that affects Python users. The update of python3-setuptools to version 30.2.0 dropped support for Python 3.2, which was released in February of 2011. The snapshot also provided an update to Kernel firmware 20161130 with patches affecting Intel Bluetooth," said Douglas DeMaio.

Wine 2.0 RC1 and Linux kernel 4.8.13 are now available

Among other updated packages that landed in the software repositories of openSUSE Tumbleweed, we can mention the Linux 4.8.13 kernel, Wine 2.0 RC1, GNOME Software 3.22.4, KIWI 7.04.21, python-packaging 16.8, yast2-installation 3.2.11, yast2-network 3.2.16, HarfBuzz 1.3.4, Vala 0.34.4, and NetworkManager-openconnect 1.2.4.

Vim 8.0.130, python3-setuptools 30.3.0, libvirt 2.5.0, GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 6.2.1-r243481, and notmuch 0.23.3 are present as well, along with the latest GTK+ 3.22.5, which prepares the GNU/Linux distribution for the major GTK+ 4 GUI toolkit. Therefore, you should update your openSUSE Tumbleweed installation as we speak to receive all the goodies mentioned above, and then some.
