OpenShot developer Jonathan Thomas was pleased to announce the release of version 2.3 of the popular, open-source, and cross-platform video editor software.

According to the developer, OpenShot 2.3 is the biggest update ever to the video editor application, which introduces numerous improvements and bug fixes. Prominent new features included in this release are the brand-new transform tool for creating real-time transformations in the video preview window, as well as the razor tool, which finally makes a comeback after being removed a long time ago.

"Back by popular demand, the razor tool from OpenShot 1.4.3 has returned from the dead," reads the announcement. "Click on the Razor toolbar button to switch to razor mode. Now click on any clip or transition, to quickly cut them. Alternatively, you can cut a clip at the Playhead position by right clicking and choose "Slice," by using CTRL+K, or by grabbing the edge of the clip and dragging."

Also new is a Preview Window that lets you preview files in a separate dedicated video player that supports multiple video preview windows running simultaneously. Furthermore, OpenShot 2.3 also brings tremendous performance improvements to the speed of real-time previews, as well as to the Export dialog, which is no longer dependent on the real-time preview system.

Title Editors, audio, and zooming  improvements, new documentation

Among other noteworthy changes shipped with the OpenShot 2.3 release, we can mention various improvements to Title Editor and Animated Title Editor, zooming in and out of the timeline, and audio support. New documentation and Windows build server were added as well as part of this major update, along with lots of other small enhancements listed below for your reading pleasure.

OpenShot 2.3.1 is now the latest stable release of the application, and it's available for download for GNU/Linux, macOS and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now from our website. At the moment of writing, OpenShot is fully translated in eleven languages, and partially translated into sixty others.
