OpenShot developer Jonathan Thomas has announced today the release and immediate availability of the first public maintenance update to the OpenShot 2.3 stable series of the open-source and cross-platform video editor.

OpenShot 2.3 arrived at the end of March 2017 as "one of the biggest updates ever" of the popular and free video editor software that's used with success by many videographers and vloggers in the Open Source community, but also by any home user who wants to edit his/her vacation movies.

OpenShot 2.3.2 is here as a bugfix release attempting to address some of the biggest issues reported by users since the launch of OpenShot 2.3. These include a very nasty bug that would crash the app when deleting video clips and then use the Undo function to restore them. This should again work as expected.

It also fixes a crash that would occur in the Transform feature when scaling a video clip down to 0 pixels, wide/tall, and reduces the size of app's source code by further compressing images, as well as removing unused translation resources. This should also result in smaller installers for various of the supported systems.

Introduces detection of libopenshot

Another noteworthy change that landed in the OpenShot 2.3.2 release is the implementation of detection for the version of the installed libopenshot library to provide users with better support for some functionality. The full changelog is attached below for your reading pleasure.

"Sometimes, new methods are added to libopenshot, and if you only update the openshot-qt package, it's possible those new methods are not available. So, now openshot-qt checks the libopenshot version, and stops you before things get ugly," explains developer Jonathan Thomas in the release announcement.

OpenShot 2.3.2 is available for download for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now from our website or directly from the project's homepage, where you'll be able to find all the information you need to get started with editing your home videos in Linux or other supported OS.
