14 DAY TRIAL // It looks like the OpenShot 2.0 free and cross-platform video editor might be released this year after all, and today we're informing you about the availability of the fourth Beta build.
There are numerous new features and improvements in the OpenShot 2.0.7 Beta 4 release, and among the most important ones, we can mention support for opening projects created with OpenShot 1.x, support for importing image sequences, a new File Properties dialog, as well as faster timeline performance.
Moreover, the compatibility with some Mac computers has been significantly improved, support for the ImageMagick graphics library and utility has become optional, the saving of projects should work much better now, and multiple crashes with the Microsoft Windows operating system have been patched.
"As you will see, lots of great progress has been made since the previous beta. Improved stability, especially for OS X and Windows, better performance, new features, and critical improvements to the OpenShot infrastructure," says one of the developers involved in the OpenShot project.
Introducing the universal Linux version of OpenShot 2.0
However, being promoted as an open-source video editor for Linux, the biggest new feature added in the OpenShot 2.0 Beta 4 release is the availability of a universal package for the GNU/Linux ecosystem, thus allowing users to install the latest version of the application on any of their distributions, using the AppImage format.
As usual, numerous other minor issues have been resolved in the fourth Beta build of OpenShot 2.0, multiple translations have been updated, and the overall stability of the software has been greatly improved. More details about the new Beta should be available in the official release announcement.
You can download OpenShot 2.0.7 Beta 4 right now for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems, but please try to keep in mind that it is still a pre-release version, and some of the functionality might be incomplete.
