The development team behind the OpenMW project, an open-source remake of the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind game for GNU/Linux operating systems, has announced today, January 22, the release and immediate availability for download of OpenMW 0.38.0.

According to the release notes (attached at the end of the article for reference), OpenMW 0.38.0 is mostly a bugfix release, as the developers have managed to address over 40 issues reported by users or discovered by them since the previous release of the software, which was announced here on December 2015.

"The OpenMW team is proud to announce the release of version 0.38.0," reads today's announcement. "Hot on the heels of the previous one, this release brings many fixes and improvements, notably movement of objects between cells, and support for the OSG native model format."

OpenMW-CS improvements, new features

However, bugfixes are not the only thing that has landed in OpenMW 0.38.0, as the development team has implemented various new features, such as a werewolf field of view, support for the OSG native model format, as well as support for checking PlaceItem and PlaceAt in isInCell.

Additionally, OpenMW now handles NiPointLight and NiLODNode elements, a notification has been implemented to show users when the game progress is being saved, there are now separate field of view settings for the game world and hands, and it is now possible to move objects between cells.

OpenMW 0.38.0 also comes with several OpenMW-CS improvements, among which we can mention support for selecting syntax highlighting colors, tooltips in the 3D scene, and support for configuring the size of the script error panel.

Last but not least, there's now support for hiding the script error list when no errors are present, and the ability to build omwaddons that contain periods on their filenames. Download OpenMW 0.38.0 right now from Softpedia for your favorite GNU/Linux operating system.
