The OpenMandriva team announced earlier this week that the second important update to the OpenMandriva Lx 3 series of the Linux-based operating system is being prepped with many of the latest applications and technologies.

That's right, we're talking about OpenMandriva Lx 3.02, which should launch later this month with the last maintenance update of the KDE Plasma 5.9 desktop environment, as well as the KDE Applications 17.04.1 software suite and KDE Frameworks 5.33.0 collection of add-on libraries for Qt 5.8.0, which is also included.

"We are working hard on development of upcoming OpenMandriva Lx 3.02 release. KApps currently in 17.04.0 version will be updated soon to 17.04.1. OMLx 3.02 will contain also Plasma 5.9.5, KFrameworks 5.33.0, Mesa 17.1 and Qt 5.8.0. Please be patience for a little still longer, you will be rewarded," reads the announcement.

The distro should ship with Linux kernel 4.11 by default

While not mentioned in the above announcement, users are reporting that the recently released Linux 4.11.1 kernel is already available in the repositories of the GNU/Linux distribution for users running the current OpenMandriva Lx 3.01 release, so OpenMandriva Lx 3.02 should ship with Linux 4.11 by default.

Also worth mentioning is that the latest Mesa 17.1 graphics stack is also being prepped for the upcoming OpenMandriva Lx 3.02 operating system, adding an extra layer of performance for all of your Linux gaming needs, especially if you have AMD Radeon or Intel graphics cards.

Of course, all these updates will be soon available in the main repositories of OpenMandriva Lx for existing users, so OpenMandriva Lx 3.02 is coming only as an ISO snapshot for those who plan on reinstalling their systems or deploying the distro on new computers without having to download hundreds of updates.
