Kate Lebedeff from the OpenMandriva project has informed Softpedia about the availability of the first Release Candidate (RC) development build of the upcoming OpenMandriva Lx 3.0 operating system.

OpenMandriva Lx 3.0 RC1 has been released only three weeks after the second and last Beta version, which was seeded to public beta testers on June 27, 2016. Therefore, it appears that the new development build doesn't ship with the latest KDE technologies that were made available during the month of July.

For example, if you test this first RC version of OpenMandriva Lx 3.0 on your personal computer, you'll notice that it comes with last month's KDE Plasma 5.6.5 desktop environment, KDE Applications 16.04.2 software suite, KDE Frameworks 5.23.0 collection of add-ons for Qt5, systemd 230 init system, and Linux 4.6.4 kernel.

Moreover, the distribution includes the X.Org Server 1.18.3 display server release, along with the Mesa 12.0.1 3D Graphics Library for out-of-the-box GPU support. Also, for those installing OpenMandriva on SSD drives, the operating system offers support for Samsung's F2FS (Flash-Friendly File System) file system.

"Work for the RC1 has further improved stability and performance. We have now support for the Japanese and Chinese languages so we would really welcome any feedback from those who speak them," says Kate Lebedeff. "We want warmly thank our developers, testers and bug reporters, all teams, and all people at large who are working hard to make this beautiful distribution."

OpenMandriva Lx 3.0 now available for i586 platforms

Among other major changes implemented in the OpenMandriva Lx 3.0 RC1 release, we can mention the availability of ISO images for the 32-bit (i586) platforms, support for installing the operating system using the Calamares graphical installer, and the latest GnuPG release fixing a longstanding bug.

Of course, you'll find several other updated components, so if you're using the Beta 2 release, please upgrade to RC1 as soon as possible. You can also download the OpenMandriva Lx 3.0 Release Candidate 1 ISOs right now via our website and take the distro for a test drive, but the final release is not far away.
