openSUSE 11.4 RC2 is out, the last build before the final, stable release. As you can expect at this point, the release is pretty polished, though there are still some lingering bugs. Many though have been fixed in a recent Bug Squashing day.

"With red carpets rolling out in Hollywood, you’d expect some applause for the openSUSE 11.4 RC2 release, which has now gone live ahead of 11.4 proper," openSUSE's Helen South announced.

"But with much of the hard work going in behind the scenes, this superb release candidate isn’t getting the fanfare it deserves. The recent Bug Squashing day saw 132 bugs updated so few serious issues remain," she explained.

The new openSUSE 11.4 RC2 comes with some fixes for WiFi drivers and supplicant. The announcement also touts other stability fixes throughout the distribution's infrastructure.

"The addition of MediaCurl backend with zsync support to libzypp is already being noticed. openSUSE user and forum member Pier Andreit comments that 'YaST install/remove software is a thunderbolt!'," the announcement added.

openSUSE 11.4 RC2 mostly completes the transition from OpenOffice.org to LibreOffice. While the actual software should work properly most of the times, there are still some issues being reported. The documentation still hasn't been fully updated as well.

KDE SC 4.6 is also integrated in the latest release candidate and working smoothly, except for a bug affecting some 32-bit users with Nvidia graphics cards.

The openSUSE 11.4 release schedule:

September 2nd, 2010 - Milestone 1

November 11th, 2010 - Milestone 3
November 29th, 2010 - Milestone 4
