The openSUSE team is working hard on the new version of their free Linux operating system, scheduled for release somewhere in October, very close to the Ubuntu 7.10 release. They are proud to
announce the release candidate version of openSUSE 10.3: "
After quite a few rebuilds and testing, the openSUSE team is happy to announce that RC1 looks brilliant and is now available for download. We consider this release to be feature complete, stable, and suitable for testing from any user." - stated Francis Giannaros. This RC comes with the latest stable version of OpenOffice.org and VirtualBox. Let's have a quick look at the changes compared to the third
beta:
■ libzypp 3.24
■ VirtualBox 1.5
■ OpenOffice.org 2.3
■ Countless bug fixes in every component: 535 bugs RESOLVED/FIXED
■ 485 packages submitted
Most Annoying Bugs:■ Online update opens an annoying pop-up with the progress. An online update will be prepared for it very soon, therefore it will affect just the first update.
■ On some machines, there were some problems with the ACPI and Linux kernel.
■ Unfortunately, GNOME 2.20 didn't make it in this release candidate, so the version included is a testing release. However, after RC1 the team will prepare an internal RC2 release with the final version of GNOME 2.20. You can get this RC2 as an update, through Factory.
■ 32-bit PPC machines have a problem with dependencies that try to install 64-bit RPMs.
For this release candidate there is no focus area, therefore you are urged to use the product as if it were the final version, and if you find any bugs report them
here.
