14 DAY TRIAL // OnePlus released the first Open Beta version of their in-house built OxygenOS mobile operating system based on Google's latest Android 8.0 "Oreo" for OnePlus 5T devices.
When OnePlus launched the OnePlus 5T smartphone back in November 2017, they released it to the public with the Android 7.1.1 "Nougat" operating system, promising to open the public beta testing of an Android 8.0 "Oreo"-based OxygenOS in December.
And they kept their promise, releasing the first OxygenOS Open Beta software update based on Android 8.0 "Oreo" for OnePlus 5T devices at the end of December 2017. The update includes December's Android Security Patch too, just like the OxygenOS Open Beta 3 update for OnePlus 5, which brings OnePlus 5T's face unlock feature.
"Announcing our first Open Beta build for the OnePlus 5T today! This Open Beta build based on Android 8.0 for the OnePlus 5T is available for download now," said Teja Naga Bharan in the forum announcement.
Here's what's new in OxygenOS Open Beta 1 for the OnePlus 5T
Apart from December's Android Security Patch, the OxygenOS Open Beta 1 software update for the OnePlus 5T adds a handful of improvements to the Launcher by optimizing the app shortcut style, combining icon options with app shortcuts, and allowing for photo uploads to their Shot on OnePlus service.
And that's not all, as users are also getting some of the cool new features of Android Oreo, including PiP (Picture-in-Picture) support, smart text selection, Autofill, which remembers your logins, with your permission, so you can access your favorite apps faster than ever, as well as a brand-new Quick Settings design.
If you can't wait anymore to get Android 8.0 "Oreo" on your OnePlus 5T, you can go ahead and install the OxygenOS Open Beta 1, which you can download right now from the forum announcement (link above). But please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version and it might include bugs. Also, do make a backup of your device before flashing the new version.
