An official announcement could go live in November

There's no doubt that OnePlus smartphones have gained their status among the best devices not produced by giants like Samsung or Apple. The forever underdog, OnePlus manufactures its smartphones after its own designs and even puts proprietary software to enhance and differentiate them.

The original OnePlus smartphone was launched back June 2014 with Android 4.4.2 KitKat on board. However, the device received the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update several months ago, and that was supposed to be the last major OS update offered by OnePlus.

The Chinese company didn't specifically said that it wouldn't provide another major update for the original OnePlus, but considering that even Google pushes OS updates to its Nexus devices for 2 years tops, it makes sense to assume that the original OnePlus won't be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat.

Well, it looks like OnePlus really wants to surprise its loyal fans with yet another update for its original flagship. The OnePlus has been recently spotted at GFXBench, and while that shouldn't be newsworthy specs-wise, there's one thing that's worth reporting about.

The original OnePlus shown in the benchmark is running Android 7.0 Nougat, which gives us hope that the Chinese company might eventually provide users with the highly-anticipated update.

Unfortunately, there's no telling whether or not OnePlus will continue on this path, but one thing is clear: Android 7.0 Nougat is now being tested on the original OnePlus.

In the meantime, OnePlus is rumored to prepare another high-end smartphone, which could be unveiled by the end of the month. The so-called OnePlus 3T is supposed to replace the company's current flagship, since it comes with some hardware improvements over that model, including a better CPU and camera.

It seems that OnePlus has its hands full with the launch of another flagship and the possible release of a major update for one of its most popular smartphones. Time will tell how well the Chinese company will handle all these important tasks, so stay tuned.
