The notch could make it to the next OnePlus model too

The next OnePlus model is expected to receive a plethora of upgrades, including the new Snapdragon 845 processor installed on the Galaxy S9, but it looks like the device will also embrace a more controversial feature from the iPhone X.

The OnePlus 6 could launch with an iPhone X-like note at the top of the screen, according to a set of photos leaked on Chinese ITHome.

While it’s worth noting that the model pictured here is a prototype, OnePlus 6 launching with a notch wouldn’t be surprising at all, especially because others, including Huawei, are said to be looking into the same design approach.

Furthermore, Google itself is building the next version of Android to support a notch, so more phones with this feature should hit the market in the coming months.

Facial recognition system?

As far as the next OnePlus goes, it looks like the notch will be home of the front-facing camera and the earpiece, though for the time being it’s not clear if a more advanced facial recognition system would also be offered. OnePlus is already offering such functionality, but the introduction of a notch could allow a substantial upgrade similar to the one on the iPhone X.

The leaked pictures suggest that OnePlus doesn’t plan to give up on the fingerprint reader, as it’s placed on the back under the dual-camera system in a vertical layout just like on the Samsung Galaxy S9. Additionally, the device, which is labeled as model number P7819, appears to be made of glass, which in turn enables features like wireless charging.

The OS screenshot suggests that the prototype runs Android 8.1 and features 6GB RAM with 64GB storage, though there’s a chance upgrades for both would be offered on the final model.

It remains to be seen if these are indeed the final specs of the OnePlus 6 or this is just an early prototype, but for the time being, it looks like we’re heading towards a world full of notches.
